Nortonlifelock Supports Arizona Schools With Covid-19 Relief Grants With National PTA
The donation provides local Arizona PTAs with funds to improve remote learning and digital connectivity for teachers and students amid the pandemic.

TEMPE, Ariz. – (August 20, 2020) – NortonLifeLock (NASDAQ: NLOK), a global leader in consumer Cyber Safety, today announced it will donate $60,000 to support 12 Arizona schools to help remote learning and expand online connectivity during the coronavirus pandemic.

NortonLifeLock’s contribution is part of the National PTA’s broader initiative to award over $1 million in COVID Relief Grants to local and district PTAs nationwide. Given the sheer volume of grant applications National PTA received for COVID relief funds, originally only 6% of applicants could receive funds. NortonLifeLock has funded all 12 of the eligible grant applicants in Arizona – at $5,000 per grant for a total of $60,000 – to ensure local schools and districts receive relief that would otherwise not have been available.

“Our commitment to Cyber Safety extends beyond helping to ensure people, their devices and identities stay more secure online,” said Kim Allman, head of corporate responsibility and government affairs at NortonLifeLock. “Having access to the right tools and resources for online learning is more critical than ever. We’re proud to support the local Arizona PTAs to help deliver these needed resources.”

“National PTA is grateful to NortonLifeLock for funding all of the eligible local PTAs in Arizona that applied for a COVID-19 relief grant,” said Leslie Boggs, National PTA president. “Because of NortonLifeLock’s generosity, these PTAs will be able to provide critical support for students, families and teachers during this challenging time—focusing on social and emotional wellbeing, resources for distance teaching and learning, bridging the digital divide and addressing food insecurity.”

According to an analysis by the Associated Press of U.S. census data, as of last year, approximately 17% of students in America don’t have access to a computer at home, while 18% don’t have access to broadband internet at home. The pandemic has only deepened the digital divide between online and offline communities. Students that relied on libraries, cafes and other community centers for Wi-Fi access can no longer frequent internet-enabled places to study or complete assignments due to closures aimed at containing the virus.

“When we applied for the PTA COVID Relief grant just a few weeks ago, we were only beginning to understand the upcoming challenges of student and family engagement. The money pledged by NortonLifeLock will have substantial impact on countless children and families at Collier Elementary School and other schools across Arizona,” said Lisa Langford, Collier Elementary School Principal. “These funds will enable us to leverage technology and virtual enrichment activities to foster community building and promote social emotional health. We are thankful for socially conscious businesses like NortonLifeLock that are committed to making a difference in our communities.”

The relief funds will support PTAs across the Avondale, Colorado City, Litchfield Park, Phoenix, San Tan Valley, Tempe and Waddell communities, providing schools with the necessary means to address one of four distinct pillars of need: distance learning; mental health and social-emotional well-being; food insecurity; and digital connectivity and access.
