Symantec* Cited as a Leader in Cloud Security Gateways by Independent Research Firm

Symantec Receives Top Score for Current Offering

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., – Nov. 16, 2016 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world’s leading cyber security company, today announced it has been named a “Leader” in the Forrester Research Inc. report, The Forrester Wave™: Cloud Security Gateways, Q4 2016.

Integrating Cloud Security Gateways with On-Premise Secure Web Gateway

The Forrester Wave: Cloud Security Gateways, Q4 2016 provides security and risk professionals with evaluations of most significant cloud security gateway (CSG) providers along with an overview of the current market for CSG. As companies continue to move their data to the cloud, it is critical that organizations evaluate and implement necessary solutions to do so safely and securely. To compile the report, Forrester evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of top CSG vendors, providing Symantec with the highest possible score across seven criteria categories including sanctioned and unsanctioned application (shadow IT) detection, user activity monitoring, profiling, and threat protection, and future development and market plans for CSG and technology.

According to the Forrester report, “Symantec integrates CSG with its on-premises secure web gateway. The solution supports both proxy-based and API monitoring of cloud platforms (both AWS and Azure) and cloud applications. It has strong capabilities for Salesforce and other structured data protection, including search, sort, and filtering operations, and offers a wide selection of encryption and decryption policy options. The solution’s built-in cloud application catalog, support for Office 365, and mobile-device-based encryption lag.”

“In today’s cloud generation era – with the transformation of traditional enterprise environments to a world where employees are using a myriad of new applications, services and devices – security challenges have never been greater,” said Mike Fey, president and chief operating officer at Symantec. “It is an honor to be named a ‘Leader’ in the Forrester Wave for our innovative Cloud Security Gateway solution a key pillar of our Integrated Cyber Defense Platform. I believe that this recognition is a testament to the innovation of our product – the industry’s first and only integrated solution that combines best-in-class data loss prevention (DLP) and cloud access security broker (CASB) technologies.”

New work patterns driven by mobility and the rapid growth of cloud applications have dramatically changed the security needs of enterprises, which are seeking to simultaneously leverage the opportunities offered by cloud applications and services, while also maintaining and growing the traditional corporate network. In addition, they are enabling mobile users and addressing the looming challenge of the Internet of Things (IoT). These are the challenges facing the cloud generation, which can only be addressed through cloud security innovation.

With the integration of Blue Coat’s suite of products, Symantec believes that its position as a leader is further strengthened. The company provides a breadth of industry-leading solutions that allow customers to ensure comprehensive defense, whether in the cloud or on-premise. In fact, Symantec was also named a ‘Leader’ in The Forrester Wave™: Data Loss Prevention Suites, Q4 2016, for its innovative DLP solution, which allows enterprises to protect data within traditional environments.
